Orion leverages Cloud computing and desktop virtualization technologies to create an environment where the law firm’s software applications and data reside at all times on a remote server and are “served” to the user’s device in a format which “virtualizes” a desktop computer. In order to work effectively with these applications, We provide the following guidelines concerning Internet connectivity, local network and user devices.
Internet Connectivity
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – CABLE OR DSL

In addition to the bandwidth requirements, the quality of the internet connection be jitter and latency free. A good measurement should be graded as A or higher from the following site, http://www.pingtest.net.
Wired Local Area Network Vs. Wifi
Over time, wired LAN environments tend to be more reliable and have fewer problems than WiFi networks. Nevertheless, we have a number of law firms who work successfully with WiFi networks.
Operating System
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – CABLE OR DSL

The version of Remote Desktop (mstsc.exe) should be version 7 or greater. The free download can be found here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969084.
1 There may be some printing-related issues with the current version of the Microsoft Remote Desktop app for Mac. If heavy printing is required, we recommend using the Cord app for Mac, rather than the Microsoft product at this time.
User Hardware
WINDOWS

MAC OS X

Other
Email Integration – Use of Fax, scan or voice mail to email products may require an outbound firewall rule of port 25 on the local network.
Printers – We recommend HP printers for use in a business environment but will support all printers that are certified to run on Windows Server 2008 products. Please look for the certification logo prior to purchasing any printing device. Wireless printers are okay, however, we recommend a wired connection to all printers for fastest speed.
Smartphones
Users of our Virtual Desktop are able to synchronize emails, calendar/docket and contact relationship management databases with smartphones capable of supporting Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) and Active Sync.
