Orion User Group Meeting Reflections

Orion greatly appreciates everyone who attended the 2014 User Group Meeting last week at the Marriott Evergreen in Stone Mountain, GA! We recognize that the active participation of Orion Users is a critical element to ensuring a successful conference. The ability to collaborate with other legal professionals who understand the true demands of working in a law firm is what brings our Clients back to the User Group Meeting each time we host this event.

Here’s what some of our attendees had to say:

“The User Conference was really great. Well done! Obviously everyone put in a lot of time and effort to make it happen. Thanks for hosting the event and for the support you and your team provides.” – Gary Pace, Executive Director at Sacks Tierney, P.A.

“As a new user I was looking for best practices for both the software and for firm management, the conference provided answers to many of my questions.” – Barbara Bengston, Accounting Manager at Reid and Riege, P.C.

“The price of this conference makes it a tremendous value for a firm. The one thing I have said consistently since I got back was that ‘I learned a lot’!” – Colleen Ryan Miller, CFO at Young Moore and Henderson, P.A.

“The sessions were useful and I really enjoyed meeting other Orion Users, they had some great tips and tricks that I didn’t know about. It’s great to talk to other Users and compare what they are doing with what I am doing at my firm.” Binny Nguyen, Firm Administrator at Wiand Guerra King, P.L.

Fourth 1st Annual “To 1099 or Not to 1099” Webinar

Register Now

This is a friendly reminder to our Clients and friends: The deadline for providing 1099s to “1099-reportable payees” is just three months away. The 1099 IRS reporting deadline is four months away; five, if you file electronically.

  1. Are you up-to-date in reviewing all firm bank accounts (including Client Trust Accounts) to identify all 1099-reportable payees?
  2. Do you have W-9s on file from all of your 2014 1099-reportable payees?
  3. If you plan to or are required to file electronically this year (250 or more 1099s) have you previously established an account on the IRS Filing Information Returns Electronically (“FIRE”) System? (The IRS suggests you allow at least 45 days for processing a new FIRE account)

If the answer to any of those three questions is “No” it’s time to start getting all your ducks in a row. January is always busy enough as it is and 1099 reporting requires a lot of time if things are not planned out in advance. Make sure you sign up for this webinar today as space is limited!

– Scott Bassett, Esq., Newsletter Editor at Affinity Consulting Group

Many lawyers are “dead in the water” if their primary office or home internet connection goes down. Fortunately, most Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) take their customer service obligations seriously and restore service quickly. But that is not always true.
