Duplicate Contact Records

Print this article

Orion does not allow you to “merge” two Contact records. You will have to determine which one is the incorrect one and delete it. Orion does allow you to merge two Matter records using the Tools > Merge Matters option on the Matter record itself.

Review the notes below on duplicate Contacts:

Orion has a duplicate Contact record check when a Contact is set up that will alert you to possible duplicates. It will prompt you when it detects a possible duplicate.

You have 3 choices on the duplicate check screen:

1) Entering the Contact.

2) Closing the new Contact and not saving the duplicate.

3) Closing and not saving the Contact and displaying the duplicate.

If an User has chosen option 1 of creating the Contact and it turns out later that it really is a duplicate, you may simply highlight the Contact record that is incorrect and click on Delete.

Prior to deleting, you should verify that the incorrect Contact record has not been inadvertently related to any other Contacts, Clients, or Matters where you want to keep track of that relationship.   If so,  you may have to make a list of the ones that it is related to and “re-relate” the correct Contact record to appropriate Matters and or other Contacts.
