Payroll Entries – Importing

Print this article

There is no standard format at present for importing payroll entries that Orion can match, and Orion doesn’t currently have a standard import utility for this feature. Some firms, however, make use of the General Ledger Recurring feature.

If you want to set up a recurring list of General Ledger entries such as payroll or rent, you may do the following:

Go to General Ledger Manager, click on New and create your journal entries, then click Save. Click on Tools and choose Make Recurring.  This will give you the opportunity to name the Recurring List.

Next time, when you are ready to create the GL entries for the month, you don’t have to “rekey” them. Simply click on New and then Tools > Recurring List, choose/highlight your Recurring Transaction, and then click on Create Selected.

Orion will create the appropriate journal entries for you in an unposted status, and you may edit them if needed. Orion will highlight the transactions created immediately after you create them so your cursor will be positioned on the entry.

Note that you may want to go back to the original entry that you “saved” as you created this recurring entry and make sure you don’t accidentally post them if that is not your intention.

This will allow you not to have to “rekey” entries that are substantially the same from month to month.
