The User has turned on the Grouping Panel. You can get back to normal by right clicking within the grid window. Click Show Grouping Panel. This will open a grey area above the column headers.
Once you have the opened the Panel, you will see some of the column headings there. That is how the view was grouped. Drag them down to where the column headers are and that will turn off the Grouping Panel. Right click again and click Show Grouping Panel.
