The pop up you are getting is a part of the view you are using. It is set up to prompt for information on what you want to search based on User input. If you hit cancel you will get a “Read of Address 00000078” error.

Most likely your default view got changed. To change this go into the Contacts module by clicking OK on the prompt. On the Button Bar go to Define View. Once there select one of the other views and press the Set as Default Button. The next time you go into Contacts, the one you selected should be the view it uses.
